Storms set to bring flooding misery to millions of Americans

Almost 100 million Americans are now facing severe weather including flash flooding as storms continue to sweep across the US.

Weather forecasters from AccuWeather say the severe weather will continue to hit much of the eastern two-thirds of the country with the risk of torrential downpours and thunderstorms every one or two days.

This means they need to be ready with flood prevention products such as Floodsax alternative sandbags to keep floodwater out of their homes and businesses, saving them thousands of pounds in damage and all the human misery flash floods cause.

The most powerful storms are likely to hit places like North Carolina, north Georgia, central Missouri, central Arkansas and eastern Tennessee

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said: “The northern half of this zone is likely to face more problems from torrential rainfall and localized flash flooding than dangers such as high winds.”

Areas further south such as Maryland, Delaware and Virginia will also face a concentration of severe thunderstorms.

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and New York city metro areas face the risk of urban flooding.

Millions of Americans now use FloodSax sandless sandbags as a handy alternative to traditional sandbags.

They are space-saving to store and quick and easy to deploy. Floodsax are vacuum-packed so can be kept in the home or business ready to use in most flooding emergencies.

To activate them into becoming instant sandless sandbags simply immerse the FloodSax in water and the gelling polymer inside the bag absorbs up to 20 litres and then retains it, transforming the FloodSax from something almost as light as a pillowcase to being more effective than traditional sandbags in around five minutes. If built correctly into temporary anti-flood barriers they are tough enough to hold back floodwater caused by torrential rain.

But FloodSax are even more flexible and multi-purpose.

A sandbag is, well, just a sandbag, but FloodSax in their dry state are super-absorbent and with their large surface area are highly effective at soaking up drips, leaks, spills and floods inside homes and businesses, especially in hard-to-reach places such as beneath pipes, radiators, sinks and boilers.

Almost 3 million have now been sold worldwide, many in the US.

Lucy Bailey from FloodSax said: “Everyone is responsible for their own flood protection at all times and just for a few dollars people with FloodSax will be prepared for whenever it floods, be that during the day, night or holidays. It’s very difficult if not impossible to get sandbags in an emergency and if you do they are difficult to lift and handle.

“Often people have to fill their own sandbags from centrally-located sandbag stations but FloodSax can be ready for action in just five minutes.”
